First Ever Paediatric Living Liver Transplant Conducted In The City

Pune: A city-based hospital undertook the first paediatric living liver transplant surgery for a 17-year-old boy. The boy was diagnosed with a rare disease called ‘Wilson’s disease,’ which causes too much copper to accumulate in vital organs. The aunt of the patient donated him the live liver.

The 17-year-old started showing symptoms like constant swelling in hands and feet episodes of nose bleeding and burning sensation in eyes and was later diagnosed with the Wilson’s disease.

Explaining about Wilson’s disease Dr Bipin Vibhute, Liver transplant and hepatobilliary surgeon at Sahyadri Hospital, where the patient was treated said that typically, Wilson’s disease is an inherited condition that causes the body to retain excess copper.

“The liver does not release copper into bile as it should. As the copper builds up in the liver, it begins to damage the organ. The liver then releases the copper directly into the bloodstream which carries it throughout the body. The copper buildup leads to a damage in the kidnyes, brain and eyes. If not treated Wilson’s disease can cause severe brain damage, liver failure and eventually death. Often, an otherwise apparently normal child can suffer with life threatening acute liver failure in this setting, warranting warranting urgent liver transplantation, “said Vibhute.

Dr Dinesh Zirpe, liver transplant and GI surgeon at the hospital, who treated the patient said , “When the 17-year-old and his family came to visit us, his health was already deteriorating. He had a bleeding nose, abdominal swelling, loss of balance and joint ache, which were symptoms of Wilson’s disease. Thankfully, the boys aunt had a matching blood group and she was found fit for organ donation after complete liver assessment.”

“The transplantation surgery was conducted recently and lasted for 10 hours. Considering his young age and multi-system involvement, this was a high-risk procedure. But because of advance precision, he was discharged on the seventh  day,” said Zirpe.

Colon Cancer Treatment in India

Treatment of Colon Cancer, by Level

The remedy for colon cancer is based totally largely on the level (quantity) of cancer, but other elements can also be critical. We provide colon cancer treatment in Pune, India.

Dr. Bipin Vibhute and his team work together to create a treatment plan according to a level of cancer. It includes a surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, and a gastroenterologist. He is having the best team for colon cancer treatment in Pune, India. He also provides cancer treatment in other cities like Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik, and Solapur.

People with colon cancers that have no longer unfold to remote sites generally have surgery as the principal or first treatment. Chemotherapy will also be used after surgical treatment (called adjuvant treatment). Maximum adjuvant treatment is given for about 6 months.

Stage Zero Colon Cancer Treatment

Due to the fact, stage zero colon cancers have no longer grown past the internal lining of the colon, a surgical procedure to take out the most cancers is regularly the only remedy wanted. In maximum instances, this could be finished via casting off the polyp or disposing of the location with most cancers thru a colonoscopy (neighborhood excision). Getting rid of part of the colon (partial colectomy) may be wasted if a tumor is just too massive to be eliminated by way of neighborhood excision.

Stage I Colon Cancer Treatment

Stage I colon cancers have grown deeper into the layers of the colon wall, but they have got not spread outdoor the colon wall itself or into the close by lymph nodes.

stage I consists of cancers that were a part of a polyp. If the polyp is removed absolutely during colonoscopy, with no cancer cells at the edges (margins) of the removed piece, no other remedy may be wanted.

If cancer inside the polyp is excessive grade (see Colorectal cancer ranges for more on this), or there are cancer cells at the edges of the polyp, more surgery might be recommended. you would possibly also be advised to have extra surgical treatment if the polyp couldn’t be eliminated absolutely or if it had to be eliminated in lots of pieces, making it tough to see if most cancers cells were at the edges.

For cancers no longer in a polyp, partial colectomy ─ surgery to do away with the section of colon that has cancer and nearby lymph nodes ─ is the same old remedy. You normally may not want any more treatment.
